Centre for Public Health
The Centre for Public Health is a multidisciplinary hub committed to improving health outcomes through research, community engagement, and policy advocacy. We work to strengthen health systems, address health inequities, and translate evidence into action for lasting impact. It aims to build consensus on public health priorities, serve as an incubator for public health innovations, support research with seed funding and collaborations, focus on public health training through various courses, leverage mission networks and forge new collaborations, and monitor, evaluate, and advocate for public health issues aligned with Sustainable Development Goals.
Vision
To respond to India’s public health needs in the Spirit of Christ through excellence in education, research & public health leadership
Guiding Principles
The Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations and CMC’s core values of integrity, excellence, justice and compassion in the Spirit of Christ will guide consultations and define focus areas for research, training and advocacy for the centre. The Centre will build on ongoing public- health-related inter-departmental and inter-institutional collaborations, including the mission hospitals network. The approach to public health problems will be grounded in India’s aspirations and contextual realities and the communities we seek to serve.
Governance
The Centre for Public Health functions under the Office of the Principal and follows a structured governance model to ensure effective decision-making, collaboration, and sustainability.
Our Core Working Group
The Core Working Group is the Centre’s decision-making body, comprising diverse faculty members who set strategic direction, oversee research and academic programs, manage funding, and nominate the Head of the Centre.
Our Adjunct Faculty
The Centre engages intramural and extramural adjunct faculty to contribute to research, training, and policy engagement. Intramural adjunct faculty are CMC members who lead workstreams, mentor students, and access kick-starter grants and core facilities. Extramural adjunct faculty are external experts who collaborate on research projects, guide PhD students, and contribute to teaching through formalized contracts with up to five-year renewable terms.
Our Strategic Advisory Group
The Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) serves as an advisory body for the Centre for Public Health, providing strategic direction, expert guidance, and fostering collaborations. The SAG comprises eminent public health professionals who bring diverse expertise to shape the Centre’s initiatives. The SAG convenes annually to review the Centre’s progress, assess its alignment with national health priorities, and recommend areas for future engagement. It also plays a key role in identifying opportunities for research, training, and policy advocacy, ensuring the Centre remains responsive to emerging public health challenges. Additionally, the SAG facilitates collaborations with scientists, institutions, and agencies at national and international levels.
