PhD Programs
The Centre for Public Health offers a structured PhD program designed to develop researchers who can contribute to public health advancements through rigorous academic training and practical engagement. Doctoral students are embedded within workstreams aligned with national and institutional public health priorities, allowing them to gain hands-on experience while working on meaningful research projects. The Centre offers funded PhD positions, supporting two new candidates per year for the first three years, with a maximum of six concurrent candidates, each receiving funding for up to four years.
Each PhD student is expected to align their research with the Centre’s priority areas and actively participate in its research and training initiatives. Faculty at the Centre serve as PhD guides, providing mentorship and expertise to support students in their academic and research pursuits. Adjunct faculty, both intramural and extramural, may also co-guide PhD candidates, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Centre provides access to core research facilities, including surveillance databases, public health laboratories, and data management resources. PhD candidates are encouraged to apply for external scholarships to support their research, and those fully aligned with existing funded projects may receive institutional support.
Master Programs
The Centre collaborates with various academic departments to offer Master’s programs. These programs emphasize experiential learning, integrating students into real-world research and community health initiatives. Students develop competencies in epidemiology, biostatistics, health systems research, and implementation science while being mentored by faculty members.
