Skills and Expertise

Having finished my MD in Community Medicine at CMC, Vellore and after acquired training in Environmental and Spatial epidemiology at Tufts University, USA, I have been involved in setting up and maintaining Health Information Systems, Spatial and Environmental epidemiology with focus on enteric infections, Antimicrobial resistance, child malnutrition and Water Sanitation & Hygiene. Currently responsible for the management of the geo-spatial database for rural, urban and tribal communities of over 350,000 residents where the Department of Community Health provides primary and secondary care, and has collected demographic and morbidity data since 1986. My past research projects include use of GIS in road traffic injury research, assessing spatial distribution and clustering of taeniasis cases and low birth weight children in Vellore district, and evaluating village water supply systems to identify the critical control points in the water distribution network, studies on agrochemical and heavy metal exposure among the residents of Vellore. At present, my ongoing research involves environmental surveillance for Antimicrobial Resistance genes, multipathogen and assessing environmental impact of TCV vaccination in Vellore and intervention studies for child malnutrition. I have mentored over 25 post graduate students till date and have over 170 publications in indexed national and international journals.
